Thursday 5th March

Today I received an email from James Clear. This was not his usual newsletter but instead he was advertising for a Podcast Producer.
Intrigued by what this would entail, I read through the spec expecting to see requirement for previous Podcast experience but no, the main things James is looking for are:

Love reading non-fiction – that’s a big yes from me

Be excellent at identifying the main idea and most useful insights in a given book, interview or speech – what are the must-hear moments?

Have excellent writing abilities – I live by the George Orwell rules for writing

Be reliable

Be self sufficient – James’ management style is hands-off

Be proactive.

All the points he listed described me in some way and I was excited by the idea of reading non-fiction books for a living. It also made me realise that there are jobs out there with no fixed hours/location that I can do. I also feel that I am on the right track by writing this blog and should start a separate book review/summary blog which summarises texts and gives my thoughts.

I am going to apply for James’ vacancy and with it I will send my summary of Shoe Dog. I’ve nearly finished the book but will then go over it again and highlight key paragraphs which display what the key messages of the book are.

I also think it may be worth suggesting that the initial episode is done in a similar fashion to that of Rugby Bricks where he brings someone else on to interview him about what the podcast will be about and to get a greater understanding as to who James is.

More to follow!
