Sunday 9th August

After writing yesterday we all napped and woke up around 4pm. Eventually we all got ready and headed to Albert Dock. This was near where I had stayed previously in Jury’s Inn hotel. As it was a Saturday night we struggled to get into the first few restaurants that we tried but eventually got an outside table at Smuggler’s Cove. We had Bonnie with us – she was relatively well behaved and got a lot of attention from the staff and passers by.

After dinner we had a short walk to Lana’s friend’s apartment. Lana knows Abi from Kings School. Both Abi and her fiancé, Adam, are doctors and had some interesting stories on the different areas of medicine they have covered including anaesthetics, surgery and stem cells. They were great hosts and we had several drinks with them before heading home around 11pm.

So far this morning I finished reading the Perils of Perception book, completed my stretches and taught myself some more Polish. I also asked Lana to say several phrases to me in English and I translated them to Polish with not too much trouble. By setting aside a little time each day to learn Polish I’ve retained a lot of the information. I’m not learning loads each day but I think this is good as it is manageable and seems to be sticking.

We are due to have a walk round Liverpool city centre soon and then this evening we are going to meet Mike in Warrington for a Sunday roast. Mike was my dad’s best man at his wedding; they’ve known each other since they went to college in Southampton.
