Thursday 13th August

As we left Liverpool relatively early yesterday I didn’t have time to write and when I got home I was tired from the driving/travelling. We left at 10am, arrived at Lana and Nick’s in Battersea at 3pm and then back in Maidstone around 5pm. I drove from Liverpool to just outside London.

The big news yesterday was that our mortgage provider wanted to see my payslip for the job I have not yet started (which isn’t possible). I was glad that this came up as I had never been 100% on buying a property and had reservations about tying up a lot of money in one area. I felt relieved when Dulcie agreed that we would cancel the mortgage application and let the property go – she felt good about it too and will look to rent somewhere for herself.

This morning I have changed my address for HMRC, my pension providers and I’m going to look in to my premium bonds. I’ve done a little research on premium bonds and it suggests that you don’t make much money on them compared to a good 3% savings account. Martin Lewis from the Money Saving Expert isn’t completely against them but advises that money may be better invested elsewhere.

My back still hurts (the long drive yesterday did not help) so I’ve pulled out of playing tag rugby this evening. It’s a shame because I could really do with a run around and it would be good to see everyone and have a beer after. I’m booked in at Theresa’s this afternoon so hopefully that will sort me out. Other than that I need to continue preparing for my first day at Xpertise, learn a bit more Polish and read more of Satya Nadella’s book.

It’s still really hot here – I’ve had the fan on full blast all morning but still feel sticky.
